I know Obama is president, but it's still America. Why would they try to suppress someone's religious beliefs?|||Only Christians are persecuted for their beliefs, it seems all other religions are given a free ride regardless what they say or do.|||He is guaranteed freedom of religion by the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. Too many people don't know what this amendment actually says. It says Congress will establish no state religion,; it also gives individuals the right to religion as they please, and that means any elected official and any other average Joe out there. If liberals don't like it perhaps they should learn what the Constitution says and realize that they are wrong to criticize anyone for his/her religious beliefs.|||Bentley doesn't seem to understand that his elected office is not a pulpit from which to spread his superstitions. It's not suppression of his beliefs to demand that he not use the Governor's lecturn as a tool of religion.
Imagine that Bentley was a Jew, and used his office to proclaim that Christianity is nothing but an inferior blasphemy. That would be fine with you, right?|||It's not the liberal thought police, it's the liberal propaganda machine, aka the press.
Anytime they can make Republicans, the Tea Party, or any other conservative group or individual look bad they will blow it all out of proportion or take it out of context. That is their main function. Why else do you think Barack Obama said, "you voted for me" at a press core dinner soon after he was elected? That was the closest he could get to outright saying "thanks for the good work campaigning for me".|||Because the man is an ELECTED OFFICIAL and as such, has no right to denigrate any American in any fashion. The issue isn't "suppressing someone's religious beliefs" dufus. The issue is that religious beliefs take a back seat to an elected official's clear duties to all Americans.
If he actually feels this strongly about his "religious beliefs" he would have NEVER run for any office. Politics and religion don't mix.|||See how liberals lie? He was in his church when he made those remarks, not at a Governor's lecturn! http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20鈥?/a>
And yall fail to mention Bentley was a U.S. Representative for yrs and his Christianity was never an issue...
Yea, I would have a problem with 0bama coming out as a muslim. He's been swearin up and down for 3 yrs now that he's a Christian. The people who voted for him had a right to know who he was from the beginning.|||Ok, so the God bothering cons out there would not be screaming from the rooftops if Obama proclaimed his atheism? Or worse, that he was A Muslim?
I can really see the religious right being a bastion of tolerance then, can't you?|||I am a conservative and committed Christian and I consider his remarks to be ridiculous and inappropriate.|||funny they never said anything about it when obama and crew did the same thing at the memorial service or i mean the pep rally|||If Gov. Robert Bentley was a Muslim or any other religion the right-wingers would be up in arms.|||I don't think anyone tried to suppress his beliefs. He was just an idiot who made a statement that alienated him from a large part of the american population.|||He's using the office of governor as a pulpit.|||Bill Maher's head just exploded. LOL|||It's what Communist do.
